2026 UK Compliance Calendar: SRS & SDR Reporting Deadlines

Navigating the 2026 Transition Window

Following the formal release of the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS) on February 25, 2026, the roadmap for British businesses has been solidified. We are now in a “Transition Year”—the critical period where voluntary adoption today determines contract retention tomorrow.

This calendar tracks the essential milestones for the UK SRS S1/S2, the SDR investment labels, and the FCA’s transition from TCFD.

Q1 2026: The Foundation Phase

  • 25 February 2026 – UK SRS Finalized: The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) officially endorsed the UK versions of IFRS S1 and S2. These are now available for voluntary use by any UK entity.
  • 20 March 2026 – FCA CP26/5 Deadline: The consultation window closes for the FCA’s proposal to replace TCFD with mandatory UK SRS reporting for listed firms.
  • March 2026 – Naming & Marketing Enforcement: The FCA’s “Anti-Greenwashing” oversight intensifies, with stricter reviews of sustainability claims in business-to-business marketing.

Q2 2026: The Infrastructure Phase

  • April 2026 – Plastic Packaging Tax Increase: The tax rate rises to £228.82 per tonne for packaging without at least 30% recycled content, a key metric for many S2 “Metrics and Targets” reports.
  • June 2026 – Assurance Register Launch: The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) is expected to establish an interim register of sustainability assurance practitioners. This is the moment “Audit-Ready” data becomes a tangible requirement.

Q3 & Q4 2026: The Strategic Alignment Phase

  • Autumn 2026 – FCA Policy Statement: The FCA will publish the final rules for mandatory reporting. This will confirm the exact scope of the 1 January 2027 mandate.
  • October 2026 – The “Supply Chain Pull” Deadline: Many Tier-1 corporates have set internal deadlines for their SME vendors to provide 2026 baseline data.
  • 15 December 2026 – ISSA (UK) 5000 Effective Date: The new international standard for sustainability assurance becomes effective. If your 2026 data is not captured in a “SaaS Glue” tool by this date, it may fail the 2027 audit.

Looking Ahead: The 2027 Mandatory Window

  • 01 January 2027 – Mandatory Cycle Begins: The first official accounting periods for listed firms under the UK SRS commence.
  • 01 January 2028 – Scope 3 “Comply or Explain” Ends: The transitional relief for Scope 3 emissions begins to phase out for early adopters.
  • 01 January 2029 – Full S1 Compliance: The two-year “Climate-First” relief period expires, making broader sustainability (social/governance) reporting mandatory for in-scope firms.

Critical Summary for UK Directors

The “Relief Periods” offered by the government are a regulatory grace period, not a commercial one. While you may not be legally required to file an SRS report until 2028 (covering 2027 data), your customers will demand this data throughout 2026 to satisfy their own shareholders.

Avoid the “Compliance Logjam” in December. Use the current voluntary window to implement your reporting stack and verify your data quality.
